Lets Dance

Arizona Osteoporosis Coalition teamed up with Best Bones Forever! and pop recording group Savvy to show girls how fun physical activity can be by bringing the first every Let's Dance contest in Arizona. The Arizona finalists included teams from Tucson and Peoria www.bbfletsdance.com, for a chance to appear in a Savvy music video.

The Arizona Osteoporosis Coalition (AZOC) is excited to be bringing the contest to girls in the Arizona," according to Sharon Hoelscher Day, AZOC President. "We are partnering with the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension, Bone Builders, 4-H and other community partners to encourage young girls to be physically active and build strong bones for life.

The Arizona finalists teams were recognized at the August 28 Arizona Diamondbacks' baseball pre-game.

The Best Bones Forever! Let's Dance Contest featuring Savvy launched in June 2011

"Girls build nearly 90 percent of their bone mass by the time they turn 18, so it is really important that they get plenty of physical activity and build strong bones now," says Kitty Woodward, AZOC Executive Director. "We hope that this dance contest will help girls get moving and show them how fun physical activity can be!"

Best Bones Forever! is a national bone health campaign led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office on Women's Health. The campaign targets girls ages 9-14 to encourage increased calcium and vitamin D consumption and physical activity to help prevent osteoporosis.
